As the start of the new school year is fast approaching, it's time once again for Texas’ sales tax-free weekend this Friday - Sunday, Aug 6th - 8th during which customers will not have to pay the standard 8.25% sales tax on select school supplies, clothing, footwear and more items priced under $100.

The Texas Comptroller's office encourages all shoppers to continue practicing social distancing and to support Texas businesses while saving money on tax-free purchases of most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks (sold for less than $100) during the annual Tax-Free weekend.

During the Tax-Free Weekend, you can buy qualifying items online or by telephone, mail, custom order or any other means (including in-store purchases) tax free, when either the item is both delivered, and paid for, by the customer during the exemption; or the customer orders and pays for the item, and the seller accepts the order during the exemption period for immediate shipment, even if delivery is made after the exemption period ends.

Be aware that not all items like some backpacks qualify for tax exemptions, as certain backpacks that are defined as luggage, briefcases, athletic bags, computer bags and purses do not qualify.

A number of our local businesses in and around San Angelo will be open later during this three day period to accommodate shoppers in being able to take advantage of the tax breaks. For instance, Sunset Mall is extending their hours by staying open until 9 pm on Friday and Saturday nights and until 7 on Sunday.
