Just as Governor Abbott announced that groups of 100 people or more were not allowed, Governor Abbott added onto that with the announcement that as of noon today, bars are to close.

This comes in after the numbers of COVID-19 in Texas was on a steady increase, rising above a 10% increase.

Other decisions were made including that starting Monday, June 29, restaurants are allowed to be open for dine in, but only at 50% capacity. He also said rafting and tubing businesses must close.

In a press release he said:

As I said from the start, if the positivity rate rose above 10%, the State of Texas would take further action to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. At this time, it is clear that the rise in cases is largely driven by certain types of activities, including Texans congregating in bars. The actions in this executive order are essential to our mission to swiftly contain this virus and protect public health.
