Seven Years Until Texas Sees a Total Solar Eclipse

Today’s solar eclipse was a pretty awesome thing, especially for those who were in the path of totality and got the full effect. Another one is due in seven years, and Texas will be in that path this time.

The next total solar eclipse in the United States will be on April 8, 2024. The path of totality for today's eclipse went from coast to coast in a horizontal line across the nation. The 2024 eclipse will be a more vertical arc from South Texas up to Maine within the U.S.

According to NASA, solar eclipses happen more often than you might think in the U.S. We are just not always in their path and don't get to see the total eclipse. It is however rare that a total eclipse was visible across the entire United States. The last time it happened was nearly 100 years ago, in 1918.

Most of the U.S. saw a partial eclipse today. However, people living in a narrow cross-section of the country got to see the total eclipse where the shadow of the moon fully covered the sun.

If you're wondering which Texas cities will be in the path of totality in the 2024 eclipse, here is a partial list: Waco, Fort Worth, Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, Uvalde, Kerrville, Killeen, Temple, Tyler and Texarkana will experience totality or near totality.
