More than 200 Special Olympics Texas (SOTX) athletes and 30 Unified Partners from the Big Country Area will they take their talents to the hardwood and compete in Area 14’s annual Basketball Competition this Saturday, Feb. 20 at Bronte High School.

Competition in three gyms will run from 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. An Opening Ceremony will prelude the event at 9:30 a.m. and a dance for the athletes will be held from 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. All events are open to the public and are free to attend.

This event features team competition, 3-on-3 play and an Individual Skills competition for athletes.

Among the teams competing on Saturday is a delegation from Brady, Texas – the Brady Bulldogs. The team, comprised of seven athletes are led by Brady High School Special Education teacher Kami Dodds. As a first-year Special Education teacher, Dodds worked all through 2014 to get her coaching certification in place before she formed the team.  Since starting, the school and community have rallied around the team.  The Student Council was out in full force to support their first event when they competed in bowling last fall in San Angelo.
