It is not often that you think of a bartender as a lifesaver, let alone an angel.  A new TikTok trend has given bartenders a tool in becoming a first responder of sorts. It is called the "angel shot".

This is a codeword made up shot that someone who is distress can order from a bartender.  Ordering an "angel shot" tells the bartender you are in trouble.  It is a rescue signal of sorts for when someone feels unsafe.  The secret code first emerged in St. Petersburg in 2016, but it has come back with a vengeance this summer.

There have already been over 142 million views of the hashtag #angelshot on TikTok like the one posted here.

There are even varations of the "angel shot".  Three main variations are recognized.  There is the "angel shot with lime".  When you order this shot it means you need the police so the bartender will notify the manager that police need to be involved.

You can order an "angel shot neat".  That means you need someone to walk you to your car.

Finally, there is the "angel shot on the rocks". That means you need the bartender to call you a Lyft, Uber or taxi.
