We just came off a Tax Free Shopping Weekend. This week brings you more school related programs. There is also Mutton Bustin' contest, a free concert night, a free movie night, and more. Check out this weeks events and activities here.......

The San Angelo Cowboy Church will have their Mutton Bustin' Explosion at their arena located at 4015 N. Chadbourne. There are 2 preliminary rounds of competition August 14th & 21st, with finals on August 28th. Entry fee is $20 and there's a 50 pound weight limit with 20 riders allowed to participate each week. The free Summer Kids World program has been running throughout the summer at Sunset Mall. This Tuesday, August 9th will be this last one for this summer from 2 - 3 p.m. The events are held inside the Community Room which is located next to Sears. If you love fresh vegetables, fruits, and plants...make it over to the Concho Valley Farmers Market held every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday  from 7 a.m. until they sell out (typically by noon). Vendors come from a 75-mile radius around San Angelo. The Farmers Market is located under the pavilion at 609 S. Oakes St. across from Fort Concho.

The 2nd Thursday of every month, the Chicken Farm Art Center hosts a free concert in the yard. This Thursday, August 11th...bring a lawn chair and a cooler, find a nice shady spot and listen to some fantastic music. The Chicken Farm is located at 2505 Martin Luther King. Every Friday Night through September 30th, you're invited to enjoy  'Downtown Movie Night' starting at 9 pm in the parking lot between the Cactus Hotel and Miss Hattie's Cafe. Bring your own chairs. Hotdogs, popcorn and soft drinks are available. The featured movie this Friday, August 12th is 'Jurassic World'. For more information, call 325-6565.

The Fort Concho Living History Program will fire mortars on the hour from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Saturday, Aug. 13th. The blank charges fired will reflect the use of mortars in a battle situation. There is no charge to watch the demonstrations which will be held on the Fort’s Parade Ground at 630 S. Oakes St. For more information, call Fort Concho at 325-657-4444.

Sunset Mall and Esperanza Health and Dental Centers invite everyone to their Back to School Celebration this Saturday, August 13th. Free backpacks will be given to the first 200 kids in grades K - 5 starting at 11 am. Local non-profit organizations and other businesses will help fill those backpacks with school supplies. The Concho Valley County Medical Society will also have free bike helmets while supplies last. Sunset Mall will have a prize wheel with the chance to win school supplies, gift cards and other prizes. The San Angelo Police Department will offer free child i-d fingerprinting services starting at 9 a.m.
